The Alpes Mancelles refuge offers a superb view of the river, a stone bridge and dam, and ramparts. Tastefully renovated in an old weaver's house, it combines comfort and old stone with a riverside garden.

Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, a small town full of character, is the ideal place to explore the Alpes Mancelles, with its charming villages, valleys, forests, hills and numerous walks. The Alpes Mancelles, between Alençon and Le Mans, will delight nature and heritage lovers.
A wide range of activities are on offer for all ages:
hiking, cycling, mountain biking, canoeing (5-minute walk from the base), boat trips (just across the road), fishing, tree climbing, swimming, bungee jumping, hot-air...Fresnay-sur-Sarthe, a small town full of character, is the ideal place to explore the Alpes Mancelles, with its charming villages, valleys, forests, hills and numerous walks. The Alpes Mancelles, between Alençon and Le Mans, will delight nature and heritage lovers.

Le refuge des Alpes mancelles offers a beautiful view of the river, the old bridge and the ramparts of the ancient castle, and is a 10-minute walk from the medieval town center and its shops.
Located in a traditional 19th-century weavers' house, the refuge des Alpes mancelles is a 2-room duplex apartment on the first floor of a house I occupy on the ground floor (separate entrances).
It comprises:
- 3 beds: queen-size four-poster bed and pull-out bed in the bedroom + cot, sofa bed for 2 in the living room.
- fully equipped kitchen, cutlery and utensils
- living room with table, 5 chairs, Voltaire armchair, bookcase, beams, decorative fireplace
- large modern bathroom
- bedroom with four-poster bed.
TV and Wifi. Ping-pong table in courtyard.
The detached garden features barbecue, garden furniture, live wicker arbour and 2 deckchairs. From May to August, it is shared with a 2nd gîte in the same house. Direct access to the Sarthe, ideal for anglers and canoeists (equipment not supplied).
Enclosed courtyard for 2-wheelers. Pets welcome at no extra charge.
Good to know:
The staircase is steep with high steps and not suitable for people with stair-climbing problems.
The gîte is not suitable for people looking for a modern home.
The garden is not adjoining, so you have to cross the street. From May to August, it is shared with a 2nd gîte on the first floor of the house.
The street is busy.
