An exceptional listed site,

the Alpes Mancelles

The Alpes Mancelles is a natural region located between the Sarthe, Orne and Mayenne departments, marked by significant and varied relief reminiscent of mountain landscapes. Formed around 1.5 million years ago, they are the combined result of the uplift of a plateau and its excavation by the Sarthe river. Erosion of the rocks by wind, water and frost also contributed to the formation of the current site.

The Sarthe region boasts a remarkable natural heritage: varied natural environments, rich in diverse, sometimes rare and protected flora and fauna. For nearly 30 years, the Sarthe department has been committed to protecting and enhancing this heritage, through the designation of 17 sites as Sensitive Natural Areas (Espaces Naturels Sensibles in french). Of these, 4 are in the Alpes Mancelles region.
