On Thursday 6 August, the Normandy-Maine Regional Nature Park and Geopark invites you to Saint-Léonard-des-Bois for a walk entitled ‘Discovering the bio-geodiversity of the Alpes Mancelles’.
On the edge of the Armorican Massif between Normandy and Maine, the Alpes Mancelles form a picturesque natural area with exceptionally striking terrain. Its slopes, rocky outcrops and cliffs overlooking the River Sarthe are remarkable for their unique features. As part of the UNESCO Global Geoparks programme and the activities of the European Natura 2000 network, the Normandy-Maine Park invites you to gain a bird’s-eye view and set off on a geological trail. You’ll discover breathtaking landscapes and the natural world around you: birds, rocks, flowers, insects… Biodiversity is everywhere for those who know where to look. The trail will follow much of the ‘Geological Stories’ Discovery Trail in Saint-Léonard-des-Bois. You’ll climb the Butte de Narbonne to gain height and discover former slate quarries, the Vallée de Misère, and a panoramic view overlooking the village of Saint-Léonard and the scree slopes of the Haut Fourché and Grand-Pâtis.
