The Bernay fief was the most important in the parish of Montreuil. The façade of this 15th-century manor house features four large original mullioned windows and, above all, an elegant turret with a fine stone spiral staircase. The Manoir also boasts a remarkable 15th-century barn, whose layout, unique in our region, is based on that of the old monastery barns.
The name comes from the rocky bar at this spot. This place, which is also a climbing spot, differs from the neighbouring Saut du Cerf in the nature of the rock: Armorican sandstone.
Before becoming state-owned, the Sillé forest had long been overexploited to produce charcoal for the metallurgy industry (Cordé furnace). Moreover, most of its oak and pine forests were razed just before it was acquired by the State in 1925. The efforts made since then by the Eaux et Forêts and then the ONF to reconstitute this forest, although partly compromised by abusive logging during the Second World War, mean that today we can enjoy a forest that is once again majestic and produces quality timber.
