The oldest parts of the church date back to the 11th and 12th centuries. The remains of a Byzantine altar and double ablutions pools have been discovered. The church is also unique in that it is entirely painted. The paintings are by Alençon artist Pierre Chadaigne, and date from 1856.
This is in fact the village’s former presbytery, hence its proximity to the church. Recently restored, it features a number of windows in different styles, reflecting the work and alterations carried out in different periods, and in particular the two windows with accolades typical of the 15th and 16th centuries.
It extends over 5,000 hectares and is mainly made up of deciduous trees: oaks, beeches… but also conifers, and don’t miss the giant sequoia on your way. The forest is characterized by its rugged terrain, with the highest point reaching 349m above sea level.
The only commune in Nord Sarthe to have been awarded this label. It is awarded to communes for their environmental commitments and actions. In this case, for the installation of a communal apiary on the lagoon site in 2022, and for raising awareness among residents of the importance of biodiversity and a healthy environment.
