To illustrate each month, the Tourist Office looks back on the highlights of the year.

After a 2-year hiatus, the Tourist Office was able to resume its participation in trade fairs for the general public. Back to the Salon International du Tourisme in Rennes with some of our Sarthe department colleagues.

March 30th, 2023: return of the Éductour. Over the course of a whole day, the Tourist Office’s partners were invited to discover local sites. A convivial way to get to know and better inform the visitors welcomed by the socio-professionals.
Back to Saint-LéonardApril
The Saint-Léonard-des-Bois seasonal office opened for its first “real” season on Saturday April 8th, for a 6-month period. Over 3,800 visitors, tourists and locals came to discover the village and the Alpes Mancelles, go hiking or buy postcards!
We speak English!May
Before the “official” release of the English version of the website (end of June 2023), a lot of work is required. The 80 pages and some 200 tourist offers visible on our site have been adapted and translated into the language of Shakespeare. English-speaking friends: Welcome in the Alpes Mancelles!
Georges Durand yearJune
In this anniversary year of the 24 hours of Le Mans, it was unthinkable not to honor Georges Durand, initiator of the famous race and founder of the Tourist Office. Numerous events took place, including the weekend of June 24th and 25th. The Tourist Office, assisted by Rando Alpes Mancelles, organized a 32-kilometer hike between Fresnay-sur-Sarthe and Saint-Léonard-des-Bois.
There’s no special time to talk about the Alpes Mancelles – it’s all year round! This summer, with colleagues from the Pays du Mans, the Perche Sarthois and the Maine Saosnois, the Tourist Office launched a table-set operation. Over 60,000 sets were distributed in the Mayenne, Orne and Eure-et-Loir departments. In parallel, a promotional campaign in the Ouest France summer guides for the Mayenne, Orne and Sarthe departments.
In the summer, visitors are numerous and locals often have more time on their hands, so it’s an opportunity for the Tourist Office to organize tours and hikes to help more people discover all the local nuggets!
279 people followed our accompanied hikes in partnership with Rando Alpes Mancelles and 90 people took part in our themed tours.
This year will have been rich in press coverage, in both the French and foreign press, as well as on television and radio. Indeed, with the centenary of the 24 hours of Le Mans, the spotlight stayed on our department for a long time, and the Alpes Mancelles benefited from the sparkle. Some fifteen receptions were held. The latest were bloggers Amélie and Benjamin from Hellolaroux!
Every two years, the Arche de la Nature in Le Mans puts hiking in the spotlight. Along with all the other Sarthe regions, the Tourist Office was on hand to promote its 13 hiking itineraries, covering almost 150 kilometers of marked trails.
Since the summer of 2022, the Fresnay-sur-Sarthe office has expanded, offering a beautiful boutique space that is seeing its “goodwill” grow ever richer. Local produce, handicrafts, books… all with one watchword: LOCAL! Products are designed within a 50-kilometre radius.
Permanent staff dayDecember
Once a year, the permanent staff of Sarthe’s Tourist Offices get together for a day of exchanges and work. This year, we were invited by our colleagues from La Ferté-Bernard en Perche Émeraude, where we discovered the Château de Montmirail.
